Kalen Applefield brings switch-hit pop and real versatility to Cal’s lineup
Applefield is a 2026 Cal sophomore catcher/outfielder who already looks like a future fixture because his bat has legit juice and he can move around the diamond. In the 2025 season, he hit .250 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI in 10 games/8 starts, and Cal described him as a dynamic switch-hitter with enough athleticism to handle multiple positions. That blend of power, adaptability, and coach-trust makes him an intriguing fit for a program that values flexibility and upside.
