Sam Mitchell brings freshman smoke, but the command is still catching up
In the 2026 season, Southern Miss right-hander Sam Mitchell appeared in seven games out of the bullpen, posting a 5.40 ERA with 6 strikeouts and 7 walks in 5.0 innings, which says the stuff is there but the strike-throwing needs polish. He flashed immediate poise by retiring all three batters in his collegiate debut and was trusted in multiple relief spots, suggesting the staff sees development potential. He looks like a high-upside arm: competitive, live enough to miss bats, and worth a look if your program can sharpen command and build consistency.
