Defensive bulldog, efficient glue guy, and veteran Bearcat
In the 2023-24 season, Newman was Cincinnati’s tone-setter on the wing: 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, while earning All-Big 12 Defensive Team honors[3][4][11]. The differentiator is his two-way utility—he defends multiple spots, plays with a high motor, and brings veteran poise without needing the ball to be effective[3][7][10]. He’s not a high-usage shot creator, but if your team needs a rugged, low-drama, winning-piece who can guard, rebound, and make the “boring” plays that coaches love, Newman fits the bill nicely[7][10].
