Maurice Mathis brings Alabama a polished, under-the-radar outside threat
In the 2025 high school season, Maurice Mathis Jr. was a 6-foot-1, 180-pound playmaker at Houston County (Ga.) who posted 62 catches for 1,207 yards and 16 touchdowns, then flipped to Alabama as a late-blooming 2026 addition. He’s praised for crisp route-running, separation at the top of breaks, strong hands, and enough vertical juice to threaten outside as an X receiver. The big question is upside versus résumé: he wasn’t widely ranked, but the production and refinement suggest a real fit for a system that rewards disciplined, reliable wideouts.
