Tyler Wood’s arm talent is real, but the freshman sample is still tiny
In the 2026 season, Wake Forest right-hander Tyler Wood has flashed high-end arm strength, with reports listing a 94 mph fastball and recruiting pedigree as a top-140 prospect in the 2025 class, but his college sample has been limited and rocky so far: 1.1 innings, 3 strikeouts, 7 walks, and a 27.00 ERA. That tells the story of a projectable arm with upside, intensity, and bullpen utility, but also a pitcher who still needs command and consistency before he’s a dependable fit for a high-leverage role.
