Belmont’s assist-engine with serious pro-level craft
In the 2017-18 season, Austin Luke was a pass-first Belmont guard who finished with 7.5 assists per game and 9.2 points, while Belmont notes he totaled 681 career assists, second in the program’s Division I era and fourth in Ohio Valley Conference history.[2][8][15] His biggest separator was table-setting: he ranked second nationally in assists as a junior and fourth as a senior, and his game translated well overseas, where he later posted 9.3 assists per game in the 2020-21 Dutch League and 8.0 assists per game in the 2022 FIBA Europe Cup.[8][12] If a team wants a calm, high-IQ lead guard who can run an offense and create easy shots for everyone else, Luke fits the bill; if it wants a volume scorer, that’s not his lane.[2][9]
