Sam Hoeft brings projectable size and a breaking-ball weapon to Xavier’s bullpen mix
The 6-foot-4 freshman right-hander from Port Washington, Wisconsin, is a high-upside arm for Xavier, entering as the No. 15 RHP and No. 35 overall player in Wisconsin with a curveball that scouts say tunnels well and can play as an out-pitch against both right- and left-handed hitters. His value is in the combination of frame, developing stuff, and pitchability rather than polished college stats yet, which makes him more of a long-term fit for a staff that wants strike-throwing upside and a swing-and-miss breaking ball.
