Barron Sawyer brings starter-sized frame and strikeout upside to Purdue’s bullpen mix
In the 2024 season at Northeast Texas CC, Barron Sawyer flashed real swing-and-miss stuff with 67 strikeouts in 48 innings, plus a 3.56 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and .153 opponent batting average, and he arrived at Purdue as a 6-foot-6, 235-pound right-hander with starter experience and some closing-style power. His appeal is the combination of physicality, strikeout ability and versatility; the concern is that his early Purdue sample in 2025 was still volatile, so he looks like more of a high-upside arm than a finished product. For a team, that means intriguing ceiling if the command sharpens.
