VMI’s Gary Ahrens brings strike-throwing upside and a lefty look
Gary Ahrens enters VMI as a freshman left-handed pitcher with a solid prep track record: he posted six wins and 100 strikeouts in just two seasons at Langley High School. At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, he has the frame coaches like for a developing starter or matchup lefty, and the left-on-left angle always plays. There isn’t college stat production yet, so the care factor is projection: if his high-school strikeout feel translates, he could become a useful arm for VMI’s staff quickly.
