Miriam Vilafranca brings defensive pedigree and playmaking upside to the Islanders' backcourt
Vilafranca is a young Texas A&M-Corpus Christi guard whose value is still more about role impact than box-score volume: as a freshman in 2024-25 she appeared in 10 games, totaled 7 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in 63 minutes, and scored her first collegiate points against Sul Ross State.[4] Her strongest differentiator is defense and competitiveness—she was named Defensive Player of the BWB Europe Camp in 2023 and arrived after playing in Spain’s championship pipeline, suggesting a guard with solid habits, intensity, and room to grow into a reliable two-way contributor.[4]
