Balian entered Pepperdine after a dominant high-school run at Pilibos, where he finished as a prolific scorer and, by his senior year, was also creating more as a passer and rebounding better. Reports from his prep season say his decision-making improved and he was becoming a smarter, more complete player, not just a bucket-getter. That matters because Pepperdine is getting a guard who can carry usage, compete against quality opponents, and bring confidence and shot-making; the main question is how quickly that scoring translates to the college level.
