Trey Wells gives Rutgers a veteran, power-capable backstop with real upside
In the 2026 season, Trey Wells emerged as one of Rutgers’ most dependable bats and a true two-way catcher, with Rutgers noting he and Matt Chatelle were a key strength behind the plate and at the plate[9]. Wells brings size, experience, and offensive pop — he was listed at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds and had a 4-for-5, two-homer, five-RBI game at Penn State in 2026[1][4]. He also added lineup flexibility and catch-and-throw value, helping Rutgers control the running game, which makes him a strong fit for a team needing an experienced, physical catcher who can impact games beyond the box score[9].
