Wil Gubba is a contact-first freshman catcher who’s already earning meaningful at-bats for Marshall
In the 2026 season, Marshall catcher Wil Gubba has hit .280 with a .717 OPS in limited action, including 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 RBI, and a pair of doubles, while also showing a small-ball touch with a sacrifice bunt and steady early-season contributions. The 6-foot-1, right-handed redshirt freshman from West Allegheny is a useful fit if you want a young, versatile backstop who can put the ball in play and handle situational baseball; his profile suggests a gritty, team-first player rather than a power bat, and Marshall’s quick trust in him says something about his defensive readiness and competitiveness.
