Big-bodied Rutgers righty with swing-and-miss upside
Charles Batista is a 6-foot-5, 215-pound sophomore right-handed pitcher for Rutgers in the 2026 season who already flashed real college usefulness, including a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in his debut and a reported 2025 relief win over Hofstra. He stands out for a power mix—fastball around 92 mph, a low-80s slider, plus a changeup and curveball—and the kind of frame that suggests more velocity may be coming. The appeal here is upside: he looks like a developing arm with New Jersey roots, starter/reliever flexibility, and enough bite to make scouts and coaches lean in.
