Duquesne’s Intense F/C with Elite Defensive Instincts Despite Limited Stats
Derrick Martin, the 6-8, 200-pound Forward/Center for Duquesne, stands out not for his modest 0.5 PPG and 1.1 RPG in the 2025-26 season, but for his explosive defensive intensity and elite shot-blocking instincts—evidenced by 2 blocks in just 9 minutes of action. His differentiator is his relentless floor presence, high-energy personality, and ability to alter shots without needing offensive volume. Though he hasn’t yet become a statistical leader, his intensity level and defensive versatility make him a perfect fit for teams prioritizing grit, rebounding, and interior defense. With no reported injury history and a reputation for outworking opponents, Martin is a high-upside prospect whose value lies in what stats can’t capture: heart, hustle, and defensive impact.
