UTRGV freshman David Reyes brings a “future piece” vibe to the Vaqueros’ rotation
David Reyes enters the 2026 season as a freshman right-handed pitcher for UT Rio Grande Valley, and the roster notes he already earned 2025 South Texas News Baseball Super Team Best of the Rest honors at Sinton High School[2]. The big selling point is projection: he’s a first-year college arm with recognition already on his résumé, which usually points to a starter or high-leverage bullpen path if the stuff keeps trending up. Because UTRGV’s current roster page lists no 2026 stats yet, the smart read is that Reyes is more about upside, competitiveness, and development than proven college numbers right now[2].
