Tyler Baird brings SEC-size upside and freshman flashes for Vanderbilt
In the 2026 season, Vanderbilt freshman RHP Tyler Baird showed real starter potential with a 3.2-inning debut start against Eastern Michigan and a 5.0-inning shutout gem with 4 strikeouts against a quality opponent, but his year also came with some early growing pains as his season line settled at 0-5 with a 4.81 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 39.1 innings[4][8]. At 6-foot-4 with a power arm, Baird was rated by Perfect Game as North Carolina’s No. 3 RHP and a top-200 national prospect, so the draw is obvious: length, ceiling, and SEC-caliber upside if the command tightens up[1][4].
