Ed Smith IV brings veteran size and steady run defense to South Alabama’s interior
Ed Smith IV is a 6-3, 296-pound defensive lineman who has been a reliable multi-year contributor for South Alabama, with 2025 production of 33 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a blocked kick while starting all 12 games.[10][3] He profiles as a sturdy interior presence rather than a pure splash-play rusher: his strength, awareness, and block-shedding grades stand out, and his durability plus special-teams impact make him a useful fit for a defense that wants dependable, assignment-sound line play.[4][10]
