Matlock’s rim protection and gritty interior game make him an EIU glue guy
In the 2019-20 season, JaQualis Matlock was a tough, reserved forward who brought real interior value for Eastern Illinois: he led the Panthers with 39 blocks, a total that ranked fifth in the OVC and seventh in the EIU single-season record book, while also averaging 5.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He’s the kind of low-drama, high-effort big who boxes out, protects the paint, and plays with a chip on his shoulder. If you need toughness, rebounding, and shot deterrence more than flashy scoring, he’s a fit.
