Willie Ponce is a table-setter with power, patience, and plus middle-infield value
In the 2026 season, Willie Ponce has been a sparkplug for High Point, opening games at shortstop and leadoff while hitting .315 with 5 homers, 36 RBIs, and 58 runs scored. He was named a 2026 Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist and ranked No. 46 among shortstops by D1 Baseball, which tracks with the real eye test: he’s productive, dependable, and controls the game from the top of the lineup. Add in a strong .972 fielding percentage and high-end run production, and he looks like a smart fit for a team that wants steady infield defense plus offensive bite.
