Iowa’s depth-building DL with first real game impact
Maddux Borcherding-Johnson is a 6-3, 292-pound Iowa defensive lineman who finally got on the field in 2025 after redshirting in 2023 and not playing in 2024, then logged two solo tackles and a tackle for loss in his first career action against UMass before adding an assisted tackle vs. Minnesota. He looks like a classic Hawkeye interior piece: physical, developmental, and built for toughness over flash, with the added value of being an Academic All-Big Ten player. For a team, he profiles as a dependable, coachable DL prospect with room to grow rather than an immediate centerpiece.
