Big-frame lefty with draft buzz, but the command roller coaster is real
Lanman entered 2026 as a pro-caliber arm after the Red Sox drafted him in the sixth round, thanks to a 6-foot-5 left-handed frame and a fastball that evaluators say plays with late life; he showed ace traits as a freshman in 2024 with a 3.48 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 72.1 innings, then mixed in a tougher 2025 and 2026 stretch, including a 5.35 ERA in 2026 and a career-high 11-strikeout game in March. The draw is obvious: strike-throwing upside, bat-missing flashes, and size that scouts love; the question is consistency, especially against better lineups.
