Ryan Gocio is carving out a real role behind the plate for JMU
In the 2026 season, James Madison freshman catcher Ryan Gocio hit .296 with a .433 on-base percentage across 31 games and 24 starts, flashing contact skills, strike-zone discipline, and enough bat-to-ball to show he’s more than a glove-only backstop. He delivered four multi-hit games, three multi-RBI games, and came through in several clutch spots, including a 2-for-2 day against Michigan State. The upside here is a left-handed hitter who already looks comfortable in college traffic; the developmental question is his current power ceiling and defensive refinement, but the early impact is absolutely legit.
