José Fichera brings real catch-and-throw juice to SIUE
In the 2024 season at Lakeland CC, José Fichera hit .371 with 11 doubles, 2 homers, and 32 RBIs, and he was noted for leading junior-college catchers with a 60% caught-stealing rate—a strong indicator he can shut down the run game.[1] SIUE also lists him as a 6'2", 215-pound catcher with Venezuelan national-program experience, which adds polish, competitiveness, and international-game exposure to the profile.[1] The one big caution: his 2026 SIUE offense has been quieter, so he reads best as a defense-first catcher who can help a team with receiving, arm strength, and veteran presence.[1]
