Penguins' Reliable Bullpen Arm with Strikeout Flair
Youngstown State senior RHP Luke Zmolik wrapped the 2026 season with a 1-4 record, 6.04 ERA over 44.2 IP, 45 strikeouts, and a solid .260 opponent BA in Horizon League play—highlighted by a clutch 2.1 IP relief stint vs. UIC and a game-winning W over Oakland. From his NAIA roots at Ave Maria, where he earned Pitcher of the Week honors in 2025 for a perfect 3 IP/9K save, Zmolik stands out with swing-and-miss stuff, poise under pressure, and versatility as a former CF; his strikeout intensity makes him a prime mid-major closer or MLB Draft sleeper for teams seeking gritty, high-upside relief depth.
