Kellen Payne brings strike-throwing upside and two-way production pedigree to Nevada's mound
Payne enters Nevada with a strong high-school résumé, including a sub-1.00 ERA as a senior, a 6-1 record and 1.60 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 44 innings as a junior, and All-OK White Conference honors in each of his final three seasons.[1] He also showed he can help with the bat, driving in 36 runs while hitting .269 with 28 walks in 2024.[1] What makes him interesting for a college staff is the blend of proven run prevention, command, and competitive consistency; the main question is how quickly that prep success translates against Division I hitters.[1]
