Trent Gillis is climbing Navy’s defensive ladder
In the 2025 season, Trent Gillis played as a freshman safety for Navy, appeared in every game on special teams, and logged tackles against VMI, Rice, Florida Atlantic, and Notre Dame; by 2026, Navy listed him as a sophomore outside linebacker/striker and said he entered fall camp second on the depth chart, a strong sign the staff trusts his versatility and motor. The big appeal here is frame and adaptability at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, plus the fact that he’s already moved from safety to linebacker—classic Navy “do the job, ask questions later” energy.
