Mercer’s young, physical DL still in the proving-it phase
In the 2024 season, Jay Culbreth was a redshirt freshman defensive lineman at Mercer, listed at 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, and he had just one recorded tackle with no sacks or disruptive stats yet. The upside is the frame, the academic/work-ethic profile, and a high-school résumé that included Defensive Lineman of the Year honors at East Paulding, which suggests some upside in coachability and motor. For a team, he looks like a developmental piece rather than an instant-impact DL—more “bet on traits” than “plug-and-play producer.”
