RJ Holmes is turning Virginia’s infield into a freshman flex
In the 2026 season, Virginia freshman infielder RJ Holmes has been more than a stopgap: after stepping in for an injured Eric Becker, he’s delivered steady production and timely contact, including a .343/.410/.571 line in late April and multi-hit games in postseason play. He’s shown a quick bat, poise in pressure spots, and enough defensive versatility to handle shortstop duties early in his career. The upside is obvious — a tough, switch-it-on competitor with middle-infield value who already looks comfortable on a big stage.
