Reed Farrell gives Penn a steady, leadership-first backstop with catcher value beyond the box score
Reed Farrell is a right-handed catching option for Penn whose value appears to come as much from leadership and game-management as from raw production: Penn’s roster lists him at 6'0" and 195 lbs, and outside reporting highlights him as the on-field leader who directs the pitching staff and helps drive a nationally ranked team ERA. He also brings the classic catcher profile of communication, defensive organization, and intensity, which makes him the kind of player coaches trust even when the stat line doesn’t tell the whole story.
