Avril Smith is Omaha’s rebound-hungry freshman defensive engine
Smith’s freshman season for Omaha has been defined by elite glass-cleaning and rim protection: she finished with 380 rebounds, ranked fifth in Division I in total rebounds, and set a new Omaha single-season rebounding record. She also led the Mavericks in rebounds, blocks, steals, and minutes, with national-level shot-blocking production that made her one of the league’s most disruptive defenders. The catch: her scoring is still developing, so she fits best with a team that values high-motor defense, physicality, and a player who can tilt possessions without needing the offense run through her.
