Alex Payne brings a live left arm and starter upside to Lafayette
Payne is a 6'1", 200-pound **LHP** for Lafayette who, as of the 2026 roster, has not yet logged game action for the Leopards, so the evaluation is mostly about projection rather than college production.[1] His profile suggests a pitcher with real stuff: a fastball that sits in the **93.8 mph** range and peaks at **96.7 mph**, plus a mixed arsenal that includes a splitter, curveball, cutter and changeup.[8] For a team, the appeal is a young, arm-strength lefty with multiple pitches and room to develop into a matchup or rotation piece.[1][8]
