Jake Swenson gives UCLA a swing-and-miss righty with ace-level upside
In the 2025 season at Linfield, Jake Swenson led his conference with 94 strikeouts in 76.2 innings, posted a 3.76 ERA, held hitters to a .219 average, and fired two complete-game shutouts, including a 17-K record outing that screams power arm[6][3]. UCLA brought him in after he was named Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Year, and early 2026 results showed him working mostly in relief with multiple scoreless outings before some uneven late-season appearances[1][6]. The appeal is obvious: size, strikeout stuff, and proven ability to dominate when the heater and secondary pitches are both playing; the question for any staff is whether they want that bat-missing ceiling in a starter’s workload or a high-leverage relief role[1][6].
