contact-first catcher with room to grow
Lex Melancon is a Nicholls catcher in the 2026 season who has seen limited at-bats, so the sample is tiny, but the profile points to a glove-first backstop rather than a finished offensive threat. He’s a right-handed catcher from Napoleonville, Louisiana, listed at 5-foot-7, and his value right now is likely tied to receiving, game-calling, and handling a staff more than slugging. If you need a high-upside defensive catcher with local roots and development runway, he’s a reasonable follow; if you need an immediate middle-of-the-order bat, he’s not that yet.
