High-Intensity Freshman OF with Power Flash and Double Threat Upside at CBU
Matthew Bline, a 5-10, 195-lb freshman outfielder from Highland, CA, brings a rare dual-threat profile as a Class of 2025 LHP/OF who posted a stellar 2.12 ERA and 40 strikeouts in high school while now contributing power at California Baptist, including an 89 MPH home run and an RBI double in the 2026 season [2][6][7]. Though his 2026 collegiate slash line sits at .171/.271/.244 over 49 plate appearances, Bline’s differentiator is his explosive intensity and raw power potential, evidenced by his 89 MPH exit velocity and ability to hit for distance despite limited starts (5 of 10 games) [1][4][6]. His mid-70s fastball (topping 77 mph) and 0.747 OPS in high school suggest untapped ceiling, making him a high-upside fit for teams seeking a gritty, power-flashing outfielder with pitching versatility, though he needs development time to translate high-school dominance to college consistency [2][7].
