Caprice Barela brings swing-and-miss upside, but the 2026 numbers show a growth season
In the 2026 season, New Mexico sophomore pitcher Caprice Barela appeared in 11 games with five starts, going 2-3 with a 7.75 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 21.2 innings, while flashing her best punchout game with four Ks against Abilene Christian.[1][12] She’s a left-handed presence from Las Cruces who has shown relief value and toughness in multi-inning spots, including a three-strikeout outing and a scoreless 4.1-inning relief stint last year, but she still needs sharper command and more consistency to profile as a dependable weekend arm.[1][15]
