power bullpen arm with proven swing-and-miss ability
Maldonado is a right-handed reliever whose best calling card is bat-missing stuff: Baseball America notes he posted a 1.76 ERA with 71 strikeouts in 46 innings during his breakout run, and his pro track record shows he can work effectively in relief when his command is sharp. He’s a fit for teams seeking an experienced bullpen arm who can attack hitters with intensity, though his recent big-league results have been uneven, so the upside is real but the role is best suited to a club comfortable developing a volatile power reliever.
