Jim Douthat brings left-handed upside to VMI’s 2026 staff
Jim Douthat is a **redshirt freshman left-handed pitcher** at VMI with a workable frame at 6-0, 190 and early 2026 production that includes a 4.26 ERA and 7 strikeouts[1][5]. His main differentiator is the value of a **lefty arm** with developing velocity—Perfect Game listed his fastball at 84 mph in high school—giving him projection rather than just present-day numbers[2]. For a team, he fits as a developmental pitcher with room to grow into more swing-and-miss stuff, though the current stat line suggests he is still establishing consistency at the college level[1][2].
