Luke Hymel brings swing-and-miss upside and starter-like length for the Privateers
In the 2026 season, Luke Hymel has shown useful depth-rotation value for New Orleans: he was 1-1 with a 5.82 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 21.2 innings, and he also delivered a five-inning shutout against Tulane plus three scoreless frames versus Louisiana. He looks like a tough-nosed righty with multi-sport competitiveness, and the key sell is poise in longer outings rather than eye-popping velocity. If a staff needs a gritty arm who can take the ball, compete, and flash occasional gem-level command, Hymel is absolutely worth a look.
