Jason Gerfers is emerging as Long Beach State’s freshman workhorse on the bump
In the 2026 season, Gerfers has already flashed real-difference-maker stuff for Long Beach State: a 3.28 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 35.2 innings, two complete games, and back-to-back Big West Pitcher of the Week honors. What jumps off the page isn’t just the results — it’s the mound toughness: he’s handled heavy workloads, punched out a career-high 12 against Cal State Bakersfield, and held opponents to a .192 average in his breakout stretch. If your team wants a young starter with poise, stamina, and real weekend-rotation upside, he’s very much worth caring about.
