Gwen Sparks brings Pitt a high-upside, two-way arm with proven strikeout pedigree
Sparks is an intriguing Pitt right-hander because she pairs a long, dominant amateur track record—43-7, 1.01 ERA, 636 strikeouts, 17 no-hitters and a perfect game—with real two-way value at the plate, and her Pitt debut already showed she can handle ranked opponents and deliver shutdown stretches. Her freshman season featured a team-best 3.82-3.83 ERA range in reporting, plus standout outings like a complete-game shutout over Cal Poly and scoreless work against Duke and Virginia Tech. She looks like a competitive, versatile fit if you want upside and toughness in the circle.
