Corey Phillips brings physical, developmental upside to Gardner-Webb’s secondary
Corey Phillips is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback for Gardner-Webb, listed as a freshman from Lithonia, Georgia, and he arrives with a recruiting profile that once highlighted 37 tackles, three tackles for loss, and four interceptions in high school. His appeal is straightforward: compact frame, cornerback instincts, and ball production that suggest he can stick in press coverage and grow into a dependable defender if his development keeps trending up. He looks like a fit for a team that values toughness, upside, and special-teams bite.
