Joe Lafkas brings high-upside arm strength, but the freshman season has been a work in progress
Lafkas, a 6-foot-2 right-hander from Cincinnati, entered Ball State after earning First Team All-Conference honors in high school and posting a 2.24 ERA as a junior in 2024, which shows real starting-pitcher pedigree. In the 2026 season, his early college results were uneven, with 19 strikeouts against 14 walks in 12.2 innings and a 12.08 ERA, but he has also flashed swing-and-miss ability and earned a win in relief against Central Michigan. If your team wants a young arm with competitive guts, upside, and room to grow, he’s the kind of developmental pitcher worth watching.
