Kansas’s veteran, academic-first defender with linebacker energy
Cody McNerney is best known as a Kansas defensive back turned linebacker-type depth piece, with KU listing him at safety at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds and noting he saw action in all 12 games in 2019 while finishing with 2 solo tackles. He stood out more for reliability and football IQ than splash plays, earning Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2019 and 2020. If you value a steady, well-coached, assignment-sound defender who brings effort and versatility, he’s the kind of roster fit coaches love and fans usually notice only when he isn’t there.
