Mason Engel is a live-armed UTRGV righty who’s flashed swing-and-miss upside in 2026
In the 2026 season, Mason Engel has worked as a valuable right-handed arm for UTRGV, posting a 5.27 ERA across 42.2 innings with 21 strikeouts and 18 walks while showing enough stuff to earn meaningful innings in the rotation/relief mix. He’s got size, a starter’s build, and the kind of early-count command-and-contact profile that can look better with refinement; the upside is real, but the walk rate says the next step is consistency. If you want a projectable arm with room to grow, Engel is worth the look.
