Lengthy, athletic freshman DB with playmaker upside at UNLV
In the 2026 season, Tylen Mathews enters UNLV as a 6-foot, 185-pound freshman defensive back with real two-way athletic juice and a strong prep résumé: he was a unanimous three-star recruit, ranked among Mississippi’s top defensive backs, and recorded eight interceptions in high school. UNLV’s staff liked his competitiveness and versatility enough to sign him over Power Four offers, and he brings a high-intensity, ball-hawking profile that can fit a team looking for a physical, developmental secondary piece. The big question is experience; the upside is obvious, but he’s still a young projection.
