High-IQ, high-motor Illinois linebacker with pro-ready instincts
Nickerson was a dependable, downhill linebacker for Illinois in 2016, finishing with 38 tackles, 2.0 sacks and 2 interceptions while ranking among the Big Ten’s more disruptive back-seven defenders. He stood out less for raw size and more for instincts, processing speed and willingness to attack in the run game, which made him valuable on early downs and in coverage awareness. His NFL bloodlines and four-year Cal background also suggest a mature, football-savvy player who could fit a defense that values discipline, communication and steady production over flash.
