The high-IQ, high-grit linebacker who became a Northwestern State tone-setter
Yaser Elqutub earned his reputation at Northwestern State as a walk-on who turned into an all-conference linebacker, known for grit, leadership, and rare academic discipline. In 2010, he posted 69 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, four quarterback hits, and two pass breakups, then started 22 straight games and finished with 121 career tackles. He’s the kind of defender coaches love: smart, dependable, and intense—more “steady chain-mover” than flashy highlight machine, but absolutely the type who raises a team’s floor.
