Experienced defensive-back coach with Big Ten and FCS roots
Grant O’Brien is best known in current public reporting as a defensive-backs coach/analyst with stops at Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Missouri, FIU, ACU, and Northern Arizona, which signals a well-traveled defensive mind with a broad schematic background.[2][3] NAU’s roster listing shows a former Grant O’Brien at safety from Phoenix and Paradise Valley, but it does not provide recent player stats, so there is no reliable evidence here that the current Northern Arizona football connection is as a player rather than a staff member.[1][4] If you’re evaluating fit, the differentiator is football IQ and back-end defensive versatility rather than measurable production.[2][3]
