Sam Burgess is a two-way bullpen weapon for CBU
In the 2026 season, California Baptist sophomore Sam Burgess has given the Lancers a versatile left-handed arm, going 1-0 with 19 strikeouts in 15.1 innings across 16 appearances, including three starts. He’s a useful fit because he can attack hitters from the left side and cover multiple roles, though his 7.63 ERA shows he’s still sharpening command and consistency. Burgess also owns a strong baseball pedigree, having come through Corona High and USA Baseball’s NTDP pipeline, which hints at a higher ceiling than the raw numbers alone suggest.
